It really is adventure that draws us most to the wilderness. It's not always easy, and maybe that's why we do it. Pitting your physical abilities against natures roughest terrain, and weather. Testing your prowess as a hunter against animals that can see, smell, and hear you from miles away on their home turf. Trying to hook a brook trout that is leery of your footsteps before you even reach the shore to cast a line. For those who joined us this last season, we shared in many adventures. Summer time brought high country fishing trips, navigating trails long forgotten to reach our favorite hidden lake in the sky. No lions or tigers in that story, but a bear oh my.
On another adventure, we set off to bring down the king of the mountain. Armed with a bow, it takes an enormous amount of skill, patience, mental toughness, and truly a little luck to get close to even the youngest of bull elk. From the trees we heard the trumpets sound, announcing the arrival of the king of the mountain. As he stepped into the light, all we could see was his crown of ivory glowing in the sun. At 30 yards he makes a big target, but his armor is thick. Long live the king.
Some adventures have mythical creatures. While all of us have seen traditional unicorns roaming around, there's no legal hunting season on them. However, the very rare mule deer unicorn does have a season, and we found one. To be truthful, he has two horns growing out of the middle of his head. Not really sure what you call that, but it's close enough to a unicorn in our book. Gotta love a great adventure story.
